The Friday Five 8.5.16

August 5, 2016 Leave a Comment

I don’t know about you but this has been one heck of a looooong week. Thankfully, we survived and it’s finally FriYAY!  What are your plans for the weekend? I’ll be spending the next couple of days doing things I love – volunteering, checking out the new Suicide Squad movie, and editing a travel video. Here are some other things I’m diggin’:

Nordstrom’s Anniversary Sale: I would never call myself a spender. I’m definitely a saver. I rarely shop unless it’s for necessities. (Target and travel are my only two exceptions!) However, something came over me a few weeks ago when I was reading blog after blog detailing people’s wish lists for the upcoming Nordstrom Anniversary Sale. I found myself creating a wish list too. I even woke up when the sale opened at 3am EST to grab my items before they sold out. I spent way too much money, but the deals on fall gear were just too amazing to pass up. Who have I become?! (Other than a girl with a fabulous new fall wardrobe?) ;o) Here’s what I kept:

Nordstrom Summer Sale

PS. The sale continues through Sunday if you are interested!

NYC History Tours: Maybe it’s the nerd in me, but the history of this city is one of the things I adore about living in Manhattan. I walk down the street and see plaque after plaque casually mentioning how some historical figure was born here, a president drank a beer there, and so-and-so was shot inside here. It’s fantastic! This week, I took a history & operations tour of Bryant Park and attended a special “History of the High Line” presentation with Friends of the High Line Co-Founder Robert Hammond. Both events were truly spectacular and left me in awe. I definitely recommend you take as many tours as possible if you visit NYC (or your own town!) because this city has so many hidden secrets.

Girl Meets World: I don’t know what it is about teen romance that I can’t get enough of. Divergent, Twilight, any book written by Jenny Han…the young love stories in these books just melt my heart! (What can I say? I’m a hopeless romantic.) My most recent couple obsession has been Riley and Lucas from Disney’s Girl Meets World. (Yep, Corey and Topanga’s daughter!) They dated for a brief moment, broke up, and then there was a strange love triangle with Riley’s best friend, Maya. (I have spent a lot of time screaming at the TV the last few months, you guys. You’d think it was football season already.) During last week’s episode, everyone’s feelings were finally figured out! Go watch the show immediately. Not only is there this cute budding relationship to make you go “awww” each week, but all the Boy Meets World references and flashbacks will give any 90’s kid all the feels!

Avocado App: My friend, Olivia, introduced me to the avocado phone app at dinner last weekend. She said it’s a great way to keep track of your social calendar with your significant other. I immediately downloaded it and added Nick to our shared account. It’s life-changing, people! Couples can share a calendar, photos, and to-do lists. It even reminds you of birthdays and anniversaries. It’s genius!

GRIT – The Power of Passion and Perseverance: I’m only halfway through this book, and I’ve already purchased a copy for my personal library. It’s about how passion and effort can beat natural talent in terms of success. The author, Angela Duckworth, also discusses how you can become more gritty throughout life – you don’t have to be born with it. It’s a really inspiring read which I recommend for everyone’s summer reading list. Dare I say that it might now be tied with The Happiness Project (by Gretchen Rubin) as my favorite book?!

That’s a wrap on this week’s five. Have a wonderful weekend!

Stay fit and fabulous,

A
