I found Ocean City to be a lovely, beach town perfect for everything from bachelorette parties to family vacations! There’s a lot of activities for people of all ages and a trip to the OC can be whatever you decide to make of it. For our trip, we mixed a lot of fun with a little bit of fitness. Here are my recommendations for what to do in Ocean City, Maryland:
The Ocean City Boardwalk
The first thing we did upon arriving at the beach was check out the Boardwalk. Our townhouse was only two blocks away which was so nice! The boardwalk is a happening place. It’s packed with restaurants, shops, hotels, tattoo parlors, arcades, and even a mini-amusement park. I walked it every single day I was there and still discovered new places during each stroll!
After settling into our place and grabbing lunch at Piezano’s Pizza on Friday, we made our way to Fager’s Island for a yoga class…on stand-up paddleboards! I think we were all a little nervous as we didn’t know what to expect – Will we float away? What if we fall in the water? Will the waves be crazy? How deep is it? Our instructor, Jessica, gave us a quick tutorial and then got us all set up with our boards. We paddled over to a calm, quiet bay, dropped our anchors, and started class. While it took more balance and patience than a class on land, SUP Yoga was so much fun! It was really neat to be outside surrounded by water and nature. Plus, balancing on the water created an extra challenge which I really enjoyed. We couldn’t stop laughing and cheering each other on during the crazy poses. If yoga isn’t your thing, they also offer a paddleboarding bar crawl and a SUP nature excursion.
Seacrets is practically a mini tropical island in and of itself. Located on the bay, this spot is made up of numerous outdoor bars and restaurant seating. You can drink in the high top tables and floats located in the water for more of a party vibe or have a relaxing meal (I recommend the spinach strawberry salad!) at a booth on the shore surrounded by palm trees. We spent a good five hours here just hanging out in the water and people watching!
On Saturday night, we went back to Fager’s Island for one final hoorah! Like Seacrets, Fager’s Island has a number of bars and seating set up around the place so no one spot gets too crowded. They even had a DJ playing while a live band rocked out to some pop hits in the other room. The best part about Fager’s Island was the fun scavenger hunt it has for brides-to-be. Upon arrival, the bride gets a pair of light-up devil horns, glow stick necklaces for her party, and the “Devilish Dozen” – a list of twelve tasks she must accomplish in order to win a prize. We spent the first part of the night helping Danielle cross items off the list such as find someone named Frank, Roger, or Richard and dance on the speaker next to the band. It took us about an hour and a half to complete everything and Danielle ended up winning a t-shirt and a $30 gift card. Go Team DSquad!
On Sunday, we enjoyed a chillaxing day at the beach. It was nice to soak up some sun and recover from our weekend of fun! What are your favorite beach activities? Let me know in the comments below – or better yet, link your blog post to your last beach vacation!
