A couple weekends ago, Nick and I headed up to the Finger Lakes with a group of his buddies. The Finger Lakes are made up of eleven slender lakes in New York State which happen to be a popular tourist destination because of the numerous wineries in the area.
On Saturday, a party bus picked up the group from our hotel around 10am and chauffeured us around to seven wineries. We stopped for tastings at Three Brothers, Rasta Ranch, Wagner Vineyards, Glenora, Villa Bellangelo, Miles, and Torrey Ridge while enjoying music and food between stops.
Each winery had it’s own personality. Three Brothers was like a winery theme park! It had a different theme for each building on the property – rustic, girly girl, dive bar, and all-American. Rasta Ranch had a hippie, Woodstock vibe to it. Miles was haunted! Lastly, Torrey Ridge had a fun, redneck atmosphere.
Before the trip, I’d say I wasn’t a wine drinker, but I quickly realized I really just didn’t know what I liked. This trip was a fun way to try a bunch of different wines! I even discovered ice wine (a super sweet dessert wine made from frozen grapes) and that sweet red wines do exist (Stony Lonesome’s Chambourcin)!
Do you love wine? If so, let me know your favorite bottle in the comments below! Also, whether you are a wine drinker or not, check out Somm, a documentary about four guys preparing to take the exam to become a Master Sommelier – which means they need to know anything and everything about all wines. This documentary, available on Netflix, blew my mind!
Stay fit and fabulous,
