Diary of a Twenty-Something: Mexican, Marvel & Maleficent

September 1, 2015 1 Comment

I was loving creating my “Diary of a Twenty-Something” video series on YouTube as a way to recap my weekends, but unfortunately I’ve been having technical difficulties (I think I’m having Apple storage issues…). I’ll do these regular picture posts until everything is back up and running again! I hope you enjoy…

Because Nick and his roommates wanted to cook up some tacos, we kicked off the weekend with Fiesta Friday! It was a wonderful start to the beautiful weekend. There were tortillas, hard shells, ground beef, ground chicken, tons of toppings, guac, salsa, chips, Dos Equis (or apple juice for me!), sopaipillas, and Mexican brownies (basically regular brownies made with chilis)! We all stuffed ourselves waaayyy too much!

On Saturday morning, we woke up extra early to be the first in line at the Avengers S.T.A.T.I.O.N. in Times Square. We had to stop by one of our favorite Murray Hill coffee shops though, Perk Kafe, to grab some iced coffee (for Nick) and iced green/black tea (for moi). Then, we trekked across town to Times Square which actually wasn’t too terrible so early in the morning.

The Avengers exhibit was pretty neat (unfortunately no photos were allowed inside the exhibit for blog show-and-tell). I liked seeing the cast’s costumes and Nick enjoyed the interactive games and “ability tests”. Unfortunately, many of the exhibit was broken, and I guess they didn’t care to fix things since it shuts down in a week. (That made the $30 ticket price a little less worth it.) As American Express holders, we were eligible to get a free photo, but even the green screen camera was out-of-order. They kindly gave us Avengers posters for the inconvenience though, and we made our own photo op instead!

It was after 10AM when we left the Avengers S.T.A.T.I.O.N., so we headed to Ellen’s Stardust Diner to cross #148 off my bucket list! The last time I tried to eat at Ellen’s the line to get in wrapped around the building! It isn’t your typical diner as all of the servers are Broadway hopefuls who serenade guests with Broadway and Top 40 hits as they eat. After songs from Les Mis, Christina Aguilera, and Sam Smith, I’m kind of obsessed now. The best part was that the main “stage” was right behind me. Plus, my bacon, eggs, and pancakes were pretty good (usual diner grub) and my orange juice was HUGE!

To continue with our Marvel-themed morning, we quickly stopped in Midtown Comics which surprisingly had many Disney character items. (Disney owning Marvel is the only way my relationship with Nick works…I kid, I kid!)

Around noon, Nick and I parted ways to be productive. Well, I read more of my current library  rental (The Astronaut Wives Club – inspiration for the ABC show which I just started!) and napped. Saturday evening, I decided to have an official movie night which I haven’t done in ages. I grabbed a face mask, candy, popcorn, and Disney’s Maleficent from Redbox at Walgreens for a fun night in!

I slept in on Sunday morning, but completed the Tone It Up Love Your Body HIIT workout (to make up for making Saturday an unplanned rest day) and a four mile run through Central Park. It was in Central Park that I happened upon your average tryouts for Quidditch…no big deal! The game is actually a lot rougher than I had expected. You go, you wizards and witches!

I finished off the weekend with a shift volunteering at the High Line. How did you spend your weekend?

Stay fit and fabulous,

A
