Subway Book Review – This is the most genius Instagram account I’ve ever followed! Uli Beutter Cohen, the creator of Subway Book Review, finds people reading actual books (as opposed to e-books) on the subway, takes their photo (always in black & white), and gets a brief review of the book from the reader. How do I know all of this?! You’ll find out soon! In the meantime, check out her neat account to find some new books to read.
Once Soundtrack – Does a song ever pop onto your iTunes or Spotify playlist that you haven’t heard in ages, and you instantly fallen in love with it again? This is what happened to me recently with the soundtrack to the Broadway show, Once. The show is no longer running on Broadway (though it is touring across the country) unfortunately, but I will forever enjoy this soundtrack by the original cast full of Irish jams and beautiful love lyrics (Heck, I even like the break up songs!).
ACDC – On Wednesday, I attended my first rock concert – an ACDC show at MetLife Stadium in New Jersey. From the tailgating to the energy of the crowd, everything was fantastic! Who knew 60 year old guys could still rock so hard?
NYPL Outdoor Reading Room – During the summer, the New York Public Library (the Bryant Park location) created an “outdoor reading room” in the shade along the side of the building. This area is filled with adorable, yellow lawn chairs and umbrellas. It also includes shelves and shelves of books in case you don’t carry one around with you. They also set out a huge magnetized drawing board and cute book magnets for participants to share their favorite summer reads with others. I added Funny Girl by Nick Hornby which ended up not being my favorite summer read, but it was what I happened to be reading at the time.
Summer Streets – Two weeks ago, I participated in the final day of Summer Streets, a NYC event where the city shuts down the streets to cars from 7AM to 1PM so people can walk, run, and bike up and down the east side of Manhattan. This event takes place on the first three weekends in August each year, and I always vow to walk, run, and bike during each of the three Saturdays. While that’s always my plan, every year I’ve participated I only seem to make it to one Summer Streets event where I walk and enjoy the views and fun activities such as zip-lining and food sampling!
Family – I got to enjoy two days of family time at the beginning of August when my entire family on my mom’s side (except for my sister and one cousin) met up in Yellowstone National Park for some nature and good ole’ fashion quality time without TV or much cell service. My family and I are just now getting around to uploading photos and videos from the vacation, so it’s nice to relive the trip in that way.
Wyoming – I haven’t traveled much outside of the United States, but I do think I’ve hit up a good chunk of this country (including road tripping across it twice…along the East Coast). Of all the places I’ve been, nothing compares to the beauty of Wyoming. How gorgeous are the Teton Mountains outside of Jackson, Wyoming?! #nofilter
