Happy 2015, everyone! While I have no complaints about 2014, it’s always fun to have a fresh start and to day dream about the possibilities that come with a brand new year. Because of this, New Year’s Eve is one of my favorite holidays.
I’ll start this post by stating that this was probably my best New Year’s Eve celebration to date! I typically do house parties or midnight workouts which have always been fun, but this time around I kicked off the New Year in style. I was invited to a formal party that took place in a penthouse off 5th Avenue. The first step was finding the right dress.
I used this event as my first opportunity to check out Rent the Runway. Rent the Runway is a website which allows you to rent expensive designer dresses for all occasions at a fraction of the retail price. I’ve heard good things, and I have always loved randomly browsing the site even though I’ve never had a reason to use their services before. Eventually, I ended up finding a gorgeous, red, floor-length, Nicole Miller gown and matching necklace for $140 (plus $30 for insurance, shipping, and taxes).
As it turns out, my first Rent the Runway experience didn’t go as seamlessly as I would have liked. While I requested that my dress be delivered on Monday so I could have time to find a backup if it didn’t fit, make temporary alterations, or shop for special undergarments if needed for the backless, form-fitting dress, the shipping process got messed up. The dress wasn’t actually delivered until 5:30pm on New Year’s Eve – 3.5 hours before my party! Thankfully, it fit perfectly, and no alterations were needed.
The party’s location was amazing as it had beautiful 360 degree views of the city. We could see the Empire State Building and the Freedom Tower. There was delicious food, multiple open bars, two DJs, and a photo booth. I had the absolute best time eating, drinking, socializing, dancing, and counting down until midnight!
As for my New Year’s resolutions, I might just continue on with the ones I was working on last year – be present and be you. Since I forgot my cell phone at home during this New Year’s Eve celebration, it was the prefect way to kick off being present in the moment. We will see how the rest of the year goes, but so far it’s off to an amazing start!
Stay fit and fabulous,
