Last week I headed to the Barnes & Noble on 86th and Lexington for Melissa Joan Hart’s book signing featuring her new memoir, Melissa Explains It All. The only other book signings that I’ve attended were both for Lauren Conrad in Georgia. They included hours and hours of waiting in line with girls almost half my age (but it was worth it!). Because of these experiences, I wasn’t sure what to expect at Melissa Joan Hart’s event. Plus, the signing was taking place in the city which had the potential to be a chaotic mess!
I wasn’t going to spend the gorgeous day in the city waiting in line, so at 6pm I headed across the park and hoped for the best. I purchased Melissa Explains It All, got a green tea lemonade at Starbucks, and casually made my way to the event on the lower level of the bookstore. When I arrived I was shocked to find that in place of a crazy long line there was a small room filled with about 60 people in it. Was this really happening? No need to stand around in a line for hours on end? A (almost) private event with Melissa Joan Hart and 59 other fans? #Idie #IloveNY

After a brief introduction, Melissa appeared for a short reading of her new memoir, a Q and A session, and the signing of everyone’s copies of her new book. I had planned to ask her about her relationship with another of my loves, Britney Spears, but the older gentleman that took the mic first beat me to it. Here are some fun facts I discovered during the Q and A part:
Britney and Melissa met while doing press for the movie/single “Drive Me Crazy“. They had a quick friendship and haven’t talked since due to Britney’s hectic schedule.
Melissa doesn’t remember specific episodes of Sabrina, the Teenage Witch, so she couldn’t name her favorite. She only remembers what clothes she wore and which outfits she loved the most.
She never really watched Clarissa Explains It All or Sabrina, the Teenage Witch, but she watches Melissa and Joey every week because she has to live tweet during it. Oh, social media…
To a girl that asked Melissa how she deals with negative rumors, Melissa replied, “You can’t please everyone. Be happy with yourself, and find people that lift you up.”
After the Q and A, we were able to meet with Melissa and have her sign our books. I was going to ask her about being a fellow Connecticut resident (she lives somewhere in my town when she isn’t filming in CA!), but I got all caught up in the introduction and getting my photo taken. Oh well!
So far, I’m really enjoying the book. I’ve gotten through the chapters on her childhood on Long Island and her Clarissa Explains It All days in Orlando, FL. In the next chapter, she spills all about boys, so I cannot wait! I read online that she claims Entourage’s Adrian Grenier, her Drive Me Crazy (still one of my favorite 90’s movies!) co-star, was her best on-screen kiss. I can’t wait to get all the juicy details! I might do a book review once I’ve finished it if you all are interested. Let me know in the comments below!
