My mom came to visit me in the city a couple weekends ago. Be sure to check out my recaps of Saturday and Sunday. As her official tour guide, I stuffed a bunch of fun things into those days including the Five Boro Bike Tour and a Justin Timberlake concert! We didn’t slow down on Monday…
We got a late start post-concert Monday morning with a visit to SoulCycle TriBeCa and some breakfast at Pick A Bagel. We then walked along the West Side Highway until we reached the High Line. The High Line is one of my favorite things to do in the city. Thankfully we had a gorgeous day, so we could really take our time and enjoy the flowers, art, and skyline views.
We decided to grab dinner at Southern Hospitality (We had plans to go there before the Justin Timberlake concert to round out our evening of JT, but we didn’t have time.) I love the BBQ at Southern Hospitality! I figured since my mom has lived in Memphis, Kansas City, and Atlanta (like myself) she would appreciate the BBQ there as well. She ended up loving it (and the Memphis inspiration!).
|Random photo I took while walking through Central Park, but I love it. This is my favorite place in all of NYC!|
Between dinner and our next stop, we took a detour to the Plaza Hotel which had a mini-The Great Gatsby exhibit. It wasn’t much (just a few costumes and props), but it was still fun to see. I suggest stopping by if you have time:
I had planned for us to visit the Met Gala red carpet – a ball that takes place each year during the opening of the fashion exhibit at the Metropolitan Museum of Art. Every year I always read about the hottest celebrities and what they wore to the Met Gala – this year I got to see it for myself! It was neat to see some of the “behind-the-scenes” stuff such as how they basically walk the red carpet one by one after waiting in a really long line and how Jennifer Lawrence likes to photo bomb people!
After a weekend of excitement and walking way too many miles, we headed back to the hotel to hit the hay. I think my mom enjoyed her first non-work trip to the Big Apple. I need to start planning our adventures for her next visit!
Stay fit and fabulous,
