I love awards season, and the 2013 Grammy Awards show has been my favorite so far this year! In fact, last night’s show was probably my favorite Grammy show ever (maybe because my iTunes bill is currently getting out of control…hint, hint for family members asking me what I want for my birthday!) I loved the performance line-up and was interested in what they were going to do last night since Beyonce and the rest of Destiny’s Child blew everyone out of the water a week ago. I was pleasantly surprised!
Taylor Swift kicked off the show with an Alice in Wonderland/White Rabbit/Queen of Hearts-themed performance. While I love TSwift, I must admit that it wasn’t my favorite performance of hers. The vocals seemed off, there was too much going on in the background, and she should have rocked her new hit “I Knew You Were Trouble” (but I’m assuming she wanted to get in that little
unnecessary jab at Harry Styles…). On to the next, Taylor.
I couldn’t find a clip of Mumford & Sons singing “I Will Wait”, but it was great as usual. They definitely deserved their Album of the Year win!
On to the Best Looking Performer of the Night…Justin Timberlake! I already liked his new single “Suit and Tie” before last night, but the old school vibe, suit, and (bow)tie Justin was rocking made me like it even more. Plus as a fellow M-Town native, I loved that he represented his Memphis roots by naming the band “JT and the Tennessee Kids”. I hope this is what his next tour will be like. After catching the Target commercial for his new album, I’m thinking he’s sticking with this old timey, jazz band theme. Me likey!
March 19 can’t come soon enough! Also, notice the gold band that crushes my middle school dreams…
I really enjoyed this duet with Maroon 5 and Alicia Keys. I love both of these songs, so I would have preferred to hear a more legit mash-up of the two. Can we also talk about Alicia playing the drums while singing at the beginning?! That seems like the equivilant of rubbing your belly and patting your head to me. I would have been a mess. You go, girl!
Out of all the performances of the evening, I was looking forward to The Lumineers the most. I’m obsessed with their sound. They could sing the ABC’s and I would instantly fall in love with it. I’m surprised they didn’t walk away with a single award last night. Their song “Ho Hey” is definitely my favorite jam at the moment. They’re playing at the Governors Ball Music Festival in NYC in June and in Atlanta in May. I really want to see them live sometime!
What was your favorite performance of the night? I didn’t list all of them in this post. Let me know in the comments below!
Stay fit and fabulous,
