Life has decided to make a turn for the cray cray at the end of 2012, but I still wanted to take some time to reflect on the year and come up with some resolutions for 2013. My list of things I’d like to improve was getting way too long, and I’m a big believer on the “short and sweet” philosophy. Here are the main things I want to focus on:
Shut off electronics an hour before bed. I want to say I got this idea on Shape Up NYC‘s blog. I really need to focus on this because I am constantly blogging, pinning, checking social media sites, and texting into the wee hours of the morning/night. Before I know it, hours have gone by! Unfortunately, this usually happens on nights I try to go to bed early.
Budget and plan. I am already really good at these things, but they make the list anyway just as a reminder to myself. I would say these two items, especially finances, can easily become the top stressers in people’s lives. That’s something I want to continue to avoid. Plus, both of these come into play while planning my 2013 fun (hopefully tropical) vacation!
Do some form of cardio and 30 minutes of strength training 5 times a week. Whether it’s a 45 minute SoulCycle class or a quick jog around the park with Lily, I’m discovering more and more benefits to exercising. While this resolution is under “Body”, it is definitely good for the mind and soul as well.
Plan meals in advance. Healthy eating is definitely my downfall. While I could plan to eat salads 3 times a week or give up sweets except for on a cheat day, planning meals in advance makes the most sense for me. If I plan out healthy meals in advance, I won’t impulse buy processed foods as much or decide to grab fast food on the way home because there is “nothing to eat in the fridge”. Runner in Denial had a similar resolution for 2012. She still allowed herself a meal out every week, but planning ahead made a huge difference in regards to her healthy eating habits.
Meditate and journal daily. Even if it is just a song lyric, quote, or one measly sentence, my goal is to reflect on the day and write something down.
I’d love to hear your resolutions. Link and comment below!
