|sippy cup of wine and a Broadway show = fun Monday evening!|
Last week I marked a few items off my bucket list in New York City. If you missed Monday’s review on DANS LE NOIR? then be sure to check it out. One of the other items I marked off was #150 – see Rock of Ages on Broadway.
I really wanted to see the Rock of Ages movie once I saw the previews. It had a great cast and I love 80’s music! Unfortunately, while the soundtrack is great the movie was nothing special. Even so, I put it on my bucket list because I read that the Broadway play was a thousand times better than the movie. The reviews were right!
The Helen Hayes theater is small and cozy, so there isn’t a bad seat in the house. The walls are decorated with posters of 80’s musicians which really set the mood for the show. The play was so much better than the movie – I suggest just skipping the movie and going straight for the play if possible. It was full of laughs and toe-tapping musical numbers from 80’s stars like Journey, Mr. Big, Whitesnake, Pat Benatar, and REO Speedwagon (all my personal favorites!). I’m surprised people weren’t dancing in the aisles, but I did see some heads bopping throughout the evening. I’ve been rocking out to the soundtrack ever since…
The show is currently playing in New York City, Las Vegas (the Venetian), and London. It is also on tour across the United States and Canada. You can find the tour dates and ticket information here.
Have you seen Rock of Ages on Broadway? Let me know your thoughts in the comments below! Also, I’d love more suggestions on Broadway plays to add to my list – so far, I’ve seen Noises Off, Beauty and the Beast, Wicked, and Rock of Ages.
Stay fit and fabulous,
