…”Most of the time I have all these thoughts bouncin’ around in my head…but with a brush in my hand, the world just gets kinda quiet.” – Allie from The Notebook
I really love arts and crafts and one of my favorite things to do is paint. It doesn’t mix well with my perfectionist side, but overall I am pretty happy with how my paintings have turned out in the past. In high school, I took a painting class as an elective and I painted everything from saints to troll dolls and Mardi Gras beads. Recently, I have gotten into taking painting workshops at local painting places around town. I am sure you have them in your area too. In Atlanta, I go to Creatively Yours (was called Cocktails and Canvas) and The Funky Paintbrush.
These places have calendars available online with 1-2 different painting options per day. Its really simple to pick a painting and register. They usually range from $20-$35 per class with the more personalized classes costing about $55 (personalized caricatures and “Paint Your Pet” days). But, be sure to check Groupon and LivingSocial for deals as I have done for 50% off. Lots of people, male and female, go to these classes with drinks and snacks. Its a great place to socialize and have a friendly get-together. In the past, I’ve been with my mom, a graduate school buddy, and by myself! Each time was a lot of fun! The place provides the canvas, paints, and step by step instruction on how to complete the masterpiece you picked. Its really cool to see everyone’s different interpretations of the same painting at the end of class.
Below I have posted some of the paintings I have done at these painting locations. I actually just completed the “Paint Your Pet” class last Sunday. It was a blast! It was just me and three other ladies. They came prepared with lots of treats and wine and were super nice to offer me some as well. This particular class was more expensive then the regular classes because it had less people and more one-on-one instruction. (Usually there are about 20-30 people per class.) These places also have jewelry making and wine glass painting classes too.
I definitely recommend looking into them in your area:
